Chris Lewit is one of America’s most respected high-performance tennis coaches and a global authority on Spanish training methods. Known as The Prodigy Maker, Chris specializes in developing elite junior players with a focus on early childhood development, biomechanics, and tennis-specific movement and footwork.
He is the author of two acclaimed books, The Secrets of Spanish Tennis and Winning Pretty, and a regular contributor to Tennisplayer.net and the ITF Sports Science Review. His work has been featured by major media outlets, including the BBC, NPR, and People’s Daily (China’s largest newspaper), and he is considered a leading voice in modern technical stroke analysis. Chris Lewit's public writing portfolio can be found at Substack.
Coach. Scholar. Fighter.
A former #1 player at Cornell University and former professional tour competitor, Chris found his true calling in player development. He has trained many top national juniors—some of whom are now competing on the pro circuit—and numerous No. 1 juniors in the United States. He is known for his intense, hands-on, and inspiring coaching style.
Chris combines unmatched technical expertise with the ability to connect emotionally with his students. Coming from a military family—including several generals—he brings discipline and high expectations, while also acting as a mentor and father figure to his students.
Academic Excellence and Lifelong Learning
Chris studied religion and literature at Cornell, Harvard, and Columbia, and is currently pursuing a PhD in kinesiology. His academic background informs his rigorous biomechanical and tactical approach to coaching. In addition to tennis, he is a licensed AEMT and volunteers with his local ambulance service in Vermont, where he lives and coaches full-time.
Athlete and Martial Artist
Chris maintains peak athletic condition and regularly spars with his students. A passionate martial artist, he trains in Muay Thai boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He believes in cultivating the fighting spirit of a warrior in his players—both on and off the court.
Family Man and Mentor
Chris is a devoted father of four. He coached his daughter, Sky, to the Scripps National Spelling Bee stage—now a college wrestler at Columbia—and currently trains his son, Isaiah, an All-American high school distance runner. His coaching philosophy is grounded in building character, values, and integrity. Chris develops champion people, not just champion tennis players.
Educator and Thought Leader
Chris is a frequent presenter at national coaching conventions such as the PTR International Symposium and RSPA. He offers year-round workshops at his Vermont academy and runs a digital school with cutting-edge online courses at CLTA.teachable.com.
He also hosts The Prodigy Maker Show, a podcast and YouTube series featuring in-depth interviews, training analysis, and conversations with top minds in the tennis world.
